The Parks and Recreation Department held the Annual Big Orange Games event on Saturday, April 27th, 2019 at Ocoee High School. Download the registration form here.
The goal of the Big Oranges Games is to provide physically challenged youth and adults with an opportunity to participate in an annual sporting event where they can show that ‘disabled’ does not mean ‘unable’.
Last year, participants ranging from 5 to 25 years old with cerebral palsy, spinal lesions, blindness, les autres, amputees and autism competed in the games. Friends, family, volunteers and staff were on hand to support the athletes who competed in track and field events such as the 40, 60, and 100 yard dash, club throw, discus, shot put, softball throw, slalom and long jump. An awards ceremony was held at the end of the competition to present the athletes with Gold, Silver, and Bronze Big Orange Games medals.
The Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank the Orange County Public School Teachers, Winter Garden Elks, West Orange Civitans, Chick-fil-A of Ocoee, City of Ocoee Police and Fire Departments for their contributions.
