Hurricane Preparedness & Response
Are you prepared? Hurricanes can be dangerous killers. Planning ahead can reduce the chances of injury or major property damage. Download our Hurricane Preparation Guide (I made a Preparing your disaster kit, we can add link here when we decide)
Don't forget about pets! Have you planned for you and your pet in the likely case that you must evacuate? Read the following tips from FDA.gov.
Do you have a complete survival kit? Your family will cope best by preparing for disaster before it strikes. One way to prepare is by assembling a Disaster Supplies Kit. Once disaster hits, you won't have time to shop or search for supplies. But if you've gathered supplies in advance, your family can survive an evacuation or home confinement. Download our Survival Kit checklist (I made one just in case we didn’t have one)
Generator Safety: A portable generator can help restore life to normal during emergencies, but its safe use requires care and planning. The following tips and a thorough reading of the generator's instructions can help avoid dangerous shortcuts (See our "Generator Safety" page).

Trash and Debris: Following a storm or other disaster, residents should separate vegetation (branches, leaves, plants, etc.) from other trash and bulky items (furniture, appliances, roof shingles, etc.) in order to expedite the clean-up process. In addition, residents who are serviced by the City's Solid Waste Department are encouraged to utilize the mini-dump facility during their clean-up efforts. For up-to-date information about the mini-dump operations as well as garbage and trash pick-up after a disaster, please call 311. For general information on solid waste operations, please see the Solid Waste web site.
